Is the road to Colle del Mulo unpaved?

Set high in the Hautes Alpes, on the northwestern part of the country, near the French border, the road to the summit is entirely unpaved and very challenging. It’s very narrow, with dangerous drop-offs and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is required. This road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow).

When was the road to Colle del Mulo built?

The southern side is reached by a gravel ex-military road, built between the '30s and '40s. On the northern side, the road is incomplete (it was not finished because of the war in 1943), and the pass is only reachable by a path.
