R440 is a very scenic drive in the Slieve Bloom Mountains of Ireland.
The road, nicknamed as the Slive Bloom Road, is asphalted but pretty steep and narrow. There are some narrow sections -scarcely wide enough for two cars- where if two vehicles have to pass each other, one might have to reverse for some kilometers of winding narrow road to get to a place wide enough to pass.
The road is 35.9 km long and links the villages of Birr (in County Offaly) and Mountrath (in County Laois). The highest point of the road is at 453m (1,486ft) above the sea level.
