The Road F210 (Fjallabaksleið syðri) is not for the sissies
Located in southern Iceland, the F210 (Fjallabaksleið syðri) is one of the most beautiful drives of the country with breathtaking landscapes. Note that there are several unbridged rivers along the way.
Surrounded by an atmosphere at the end of the world, the drive is 113 km long. It is a rough and challenging road only for a 4 wheel drive vehicle with significant ground clearance. Expect large potholes, many ruts and large boulders on their surface. Driving in a small passenger car is simply and plainly irresponsible and can be very dangerous. It’s only open during the summer months, usually between late June and early September. The trail links Keldur (F264 Road) and Grafarkirkja (F208 Road). Expect to be alone, this track is not very busy even. It’s one of the famous F Roads of the country.
There are some streams, creeks, and rivers you need to cross. Crossing big rivers requires a bit of experience. You will have to cross some rivers. Only well equipped jeeps and larger vehicles are able to cross the rivers. These rivers can be dangerous. Always check the river to ensure that it's not too deep. This road is amazing by day, but can be dangerous during the dark night.
