A narrow zigzag road from Asi Gonia to Kallikratis

The Asi Gonia-Kallikratis road is the name of the sharply winding and precipitous ascent in a steep and narrow zig-zag road located in the eastern part of the Chania regional unit, southwest Crete, in Greece. Drive with care as this is a mountain road with hairpin curves and dangerous dropoffs.

This difficult route demands 100% concentration. It has humbled many egos. The road links Asi Gonia, a mountain village and Kallikratis, a small town. The drive is certainly breathtaking and it has a fearsome reputation. The winding zigzag road is paved. One mistake and it's a free fall to your death. Expect 20 hairpin turns along the way.

The road can be impassable anytime due to rock slides. Careless drivers may fall to the cliff. The route is dangerous. Not recommended to newbies. Along the way you’ll have to deal with some dangerous dropoffs. This difficult and dangerous road is 8.7 km (5.40 miles) long. The drive is pretty steep, with sections up to 10%. Starting from Asi Gonia, at 391m above the sea level, the elevation gain is 430m with an average gradient of 4.94%.
