Crossing the scenic Pont de la Mariée
Located in the Alpes-Maritimes, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, in southeastern France, Pont de la Mariée (Bride's Bridge) is one of the most spectacular bridges in the world.
Located within the Mercantour National Park, Pont de la Mariée has a 62 metre span and sits 80 metres above the Var River. The bridge crosses high over the river carrying the asphalted RD16, but it’s currently blocked with big rocks. It’s a one way road. It is one of the fist reinforced concrete arched bridges in the country.
The bridge was finished in 1923. It was built for and carried the tramway. Legend has it that a young bride once threw herself off on her wedding night. It’s a very touristic spot of the area. It is popular for bungee jumping on weekends and during the summer.
