When was the road to Col de la Paré built?

Located in the south-eastern segment of France, near Col des Rochilles, the road that snakes its way up to the summit is primarily a gravel track, known as Route Militaire des Rochilles. This road, with a rich history, was constructed between 1902 and 1907 for military purposes. For those wishing to travel this path, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to the rugged terrain. As you approach the summit, notable landmarks include the Ouvrage Les Rochilles, a component of the Maginot Line's Alpine extension, and a mountain shelter, referred to as Refuge du camp des Rochilles.

How long is the road to Col de la Paré?

The journey, starting from Parking de 3 lacs along the D902 road, south of Valloire, spans 4.8 km (2.98 miles). This narrow pathway is not only steep but also presents challenges with its 16 hairpin turns. Moreover, it's worth noting that during winter, the road typically becomes impassable due to heavy snow.
