Pfeishütte
Pfeishütte is an Alpine mountain refuge hut at an elevation of 1.926m (6,318ft) above the sea level, located below Mount Sonntagkar in Karwendel, in the Austria’s western state of Tyrol.
This alpine hut was built in 1922. The road to the hut is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. Nestling amidst the mountains of the southern Karwendel range at the end of the Samertal valley, stay away if you're scared of heights. The journey offers stunning views of the rugged peaks of the Rumer Spitz, the Stempeljoch and the Bachofen.
Located in a pristine alpine, drive with care as this is a mountain road with dangerous dropoffs. Its many twists, turns and narrows can pose a challenge to even the most experienced drivers. The road is not easy, though. Up, down, right, left all the time. With a special off-road vehicle it is possible to reach the hut. However, after heavy storms it can easily happen that the road cannot be use due to mudflows. Expect a trail pretty steep. Starting from Scharnitz, at 965m above the sea level, the ascent is 18.6 km. Over this distance the elevation gain is 961 meters. The average gradient is 5.16%.
