The road to the summit is totally unpaved with some rocky sections. It’s a service road for the chairlifts of the ski resort area of Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. 4x4 vehicles only.

How long is the road to Festkogl?

The climb is very tough and very steeply rising. Starting from Obergurgl, the ascent is 7km. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.009m and the average gradient is 14%. But the final part is over 16%.

Is the road to Festkogl open year-round?

Set high in the Ötztal Alps, winters are cold and extremely snowy, with heavy snowfall falling from October through May with light snowfall in June and September. Snowfall in the summer months of July and August is not rare.
