Kühtai Saddle

Set high in the Austrian Alps, the road to the summit, also known as Kühtaisattel, is totally paved. It’s called Road L13. The winter sports resort Kühtai is situated in the saddle, so the pass is typically open all year round, with the occasional closure in winters. The drive, with curves and hairpin turns is an absolute must for road bikers in Tirol. Steep sections make it a real challenge.

Tucked away in the western part of the country, the pass is 24.9km (15.47 miles) long, running west-east from Oetz to Sankt Sigmund im Sellrain. The road is steep, and hits a 17% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. The western side of the road is closed to trucking. The first road through the pass was completed in 1628.
