
The road to Pla de l’Estany, closed to private vehicles
Pla de l’Estany is a high mountain plateau at an elevation of 2.026m (6,646ft) above the sea level, located in La Massana, in Andorra, close to the border with Spain.
The road to the summit, located within the Parc Natural Comunal de les Valls del Comapedrosa, is totally unpaved. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. 4x4 required. No personal vehicles are allowed on this road, only the local "taxis", which are all either Jeeps or Land Rovers. The road is very steep. Starting from Arinsal, the ascent is 2.9 km (1.67 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 456 meters. The average gradient is 15.72%.
