Čertovica, the highest paved mountain pass in Slovakia

Čertovica is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.232m (4,042ft) above the sea level, on a saddleback situated in the middle of the main ridge of the Low Tatras mountains, in Slovakia. 

The road to the summit is paved, and links the regions of Liptov and Horehronie. This road is usually open all year, but it can be rarely closed during the winter because of the severe weather conditions. On the summit there’s a ski resort. 

To reach the summit, starting from Banskobystrický, the ascent is 11.81 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 596 meters. The average percentage is 5%. It is said to be the highest paved mountain pass in Slovakia.
