Nedeia is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.085m (6,840ft) above sea level, located in Romania. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.

The road to the pass is totally unpaved and defiant. It comprises steep sections, narrow parts and countless curves, with 12 hairpin turns. 4wd vehicle required.

Starting from Vaideeni (in Vâlcea County, Oltenia), the road to the summit is 22.8km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1,567m and the average gradient is 6.87%.

Is the road to Nedeia open year-round?

Set high in the Căpățână Mountains of the Southern Carpathians, the road is totally impassable in winters. It’s a very challenging drive after rains.
