The pass is located in the historical region of Bukovina, in the northern part of the Eastern Carpathians, situated in the north-eastern part of the country.

The road through the pass is completely paved. It's called DN17, part of the European Route 58, connecting Transylvania and Moldova.

The pass is 21.1 km (13.11 miles) long, running from Iacobeni to Pojorâta.

At the summit you’ll find restaurants, bars, and a souvenir shop. Not far from the summit stands the "Inaltarea Domnului" Monastery, erected in memory of the Romanians who perished on battlefields or as prisoners of war in camps.
