The pass, also known as Gutin Pass, Paltinu Pass, Paltinului Pass or Pintea Pass, is located in the northern part of the country. In 2015 a wooden crucifix was erected near the summit.

The road to the summit is totally paved but very curvy, especially on its southern side, with countless hairpin turns. It’s called DN 18 road.
How long is Pasul Gutâi?
The pass is 28.5 km (17.7 miles) long and runs south-north from Baia Sprie to Mara, running through the "Russian mountains". It’s a very scenic drive.
