Pereval Rikotskiy

The road to Rikoti Pass isn’t an easy one

Pereval Rikotskiy is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1.011m (3,316ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary between Shida Kartli and Imereti regions of eastern Georgia.

Set high in the Greater Caucasus mountain range, the road to the summit is paved but pretty steep (hitting a 10.6% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps) and narrow. It’s called შ 56. When the snow falls - which it does in the winter – things get tough and slippery.
The pass road is 4.4km (2.73 miles) long. The road over the pass was bypassed by a tunnel in 1982, part of the Tbilisi-Kutaisi highway, which connects the two major cities of the country.
