The town, formerly known as Hooker Creek Native Settlement or just Hooker Creek, is located around 560 km from Katherine and approximately 890 km from Darwin, not far from the Western Australia border.

How long is the road to Lajamanu?

The road to the town is totally unpaved. It’s dirt but well formed. It’s 105 km (65 miles) long, starting from the Buntine Highway in Kalkarindji. The road may become impassable at times during the wet season (Jan–April).
