Located high in the Flinders Ranges mountain range, the road to the summit is entirely unpaved. It's a steep, narrow, and rocky dirt road. While 2WD, AWD, and 4WD vehicles can access it, towing vehicles are not recommended.

Starting from Flinders Ranges Way, the ascent is 1.9km (1.18 miles) long. The road climbs 71 meters in this distance. Its average gradient is 3.73%, with some sections reaching a maximum gradient of 9%.

Is Stokes Hill Lookout worth the visit?

The summit has a small parking lot and offers breathtaking views of Wilpena Pound and other geographical features. Visitors can enjoy 360° panoramas of the Flinders Ranges National Park. While the lookout is a popular spot, the views remain unparalleled. It's an ideal location to watch the sunset if you're there at that time.
