Bahrain-Kalam road

Dare to drive the dangerous road from Bahrain to Kalam

Located along the bank of Swat River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, the Bahrain-Kalam road is an unforgettable journey. It’s not for the sissies.

The road is mostly unpaved, running along the shore of Swat river. Open to all motorized vehicles, however, strongly recommended for 4-wheel drive vehicles. The road is very rough--only try driving it in a 2wd car, if you're planning to buy a new car. The road is part of the main N-95. It’s 34.8 km long but allow 5 hours without stops.

Located within the Kalam Swat valley, the road links Bahrain (at 1.426 masl) and Kalam (2.001masl). Drive with care as this is a mountain road with hairpin curves and dangerous dropoffs. Expect landslides, flash floods and traffic jams. It’s definitely not for anyone suffering from vertigo or a fear of landslides.
