Samto La: a challenging 4x4 track
Samto La is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.064m (16,614ft) above the sea level, located on the Nepal-China border.
The pass links the Saga County, Shigatse, in Tibet, China and the Mustang District in the Dhawalagiri Zone of northern Nepal. On the Chinese side, the road to the summit is a military track, closed to civilians. 4x4 vehicles only. It’s totally impassable in winters. There is no road, trail or path via Nepal side.
