A very bumpy, grueling road to Mingtur Pass
Pereval Ming-Tur is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.707m (12,162ft) above sea level, located in the Isxsyk-Kul Region, in Kyrgyzstan.
Where is Mingtur Pass?
The pass is located in the eastern part of the country, near the border with Kazakhstan.
Is the road to Mingtur Pass unpaved?
The road through the pass is extremely challenging. It’s more a mule trail than a road. It’s totally impassable for normal vehicles: only 4x4 with high clearance will make it. The climb clings to steep, rice-terraced, and scree-sloped canyons.
How challenging is Mingtur Pass?
Pay special attention: the area is extremely remote, with no phone signal. Be ready to travel at high altitudes and in extreme weather conditions. The views back across the spectacular Tien Shan and the black pyramid of Khan Tengri are among the best in Central Asia.
