The pass is located north of Song-Kul Lake, in Kochkor district, in the northern-central part of the country.

Is the road to Chaar Archa unpaved?

The road through the pass is totally unpaved. A 4x4 vehicle is required. It comprises very steep parts and 4 hairpin turns. Heavy snow blankets the summit during winter at this elevation, causing the road to be impassable from October to March.
