Rizong Gompa
Rizong Gompa is a high mountain monastery at an elevation of 3.420m (11,220ft) above the sea level, located in Ladakh, India.
The monastery was established in 1831 situated on the hilltop of a rocky valley to the north of river Indus. The road to the monastery is gravel and very narrow with dangerous drops. Located at the end of a gorge, with some stunning views of the landscape, the area is very remote.
The road is usually impassable from October to June. Be prepared, this road is not for the faint of heart or ill prepared. One mistake can have serious consequences.The drive is very remote. It suffers the harsh meteorological conditions of the area every winter.
