Daulat Beg Oldi is a military base at an elevation of 5.067m (16,624ft) above the sea level, located in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir state. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
The road to the military base is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy. Only 4x4 vehicles. The area is totally closed to civilians. The base hosts the world’s highest active airstrip. There are high chances of getting affected by AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness).
Due to the high elevations and exposure, the road is subject to strong winds and rapid weather changes. Temperatures here in the winter are brutally cold. It plummets as low as -55 C in the winters.
