The winding road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Shakar Road. It’s a difficult drive, with dangerous drop offs, hundreds of hairpin turns and very steep sections, hitting a 12% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
The road is 44.9km (27.89 miles) long, running west-east from Lotsum to Shakardo. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended in dry weather. After rains, a 4x4 vehicle is required.
