Kaldang-Kildang La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.095m (13,435ft) above the sea level, located in the Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The winding road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Shakar Road. It’s a difficult drive, with dangerous drop offs, hundreds of hairpin turns and very steep sections, hitting a 12% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
The road is 44.9km (27.89 miles) long, running west-east from Lotsum to Shakardo. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended in dry weather. After rains, a 4x4 vehicle is required.
