The pass is located south of Shashi La, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, in the northern part of the country.

The winding road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Shakar Road. It’s a difficult drive, with dangerous drop-offs, hundreds of hairpin turns, and very steep sections, hitting a 12% maximum gradient through some of the ramps.

How long is the road to Kaldang Kildang La?

The road is 44.9 km (27.89 miles) long, running west-east from Lotsum to Shakardo. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended in dry weather. After rains, a 4x4 vehicle is required.
