Jyotirmath-Malari road

A steep cliff road from Jyotirmath to Malari

Located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, the Jyotirmath-Malari road is an asphalted high mountain road located within the Nanda Devi National Park.

The road is 64.6 km (40 miles) long and extremely steep. It links Jyotirmath (also known as Joshimath), a city at an elevation of 1.934m above the sea level, and Malari, a small village near the Tibet border at 3.033m above the sea level. Take special care with rare snow leopards and bears.
The road includes countless hairpin turns along the Dhauliganga River. This cliff road is swept away by the winter snow and ice or by flooding of the river waters periodically.
