Pensi La

The wild road to Pensi La in India

Pensi Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.494m (14,744ft) above the sea level located in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, in India.

The pass is traversed by a metalled road. It’s known as the gateway to Zanskar. The road is usually open between May and October only and links the Suru Valley region to the Zanskar Valley region. The pass is also known as Penzi La.  There’s very little traffic. The surface isn’t great but this fact keeps the trucks away. The summit offers stunning views of the Suru River valley, glacial lakes and the Drang Drung Glacier.
