Where is Gongkar La?

The pass is situated north of Mago, in the northeastern part of Tawang District.

Is Gongkar La Unpaved?

The road to the summit is entirely unpaved and traverses rugged, glaciated terrain with snow-covered craggy peaks along the Indo-Tibet border. Only 4x4 vehicles are recommended, as the route has narrow sections, steep grades, and dangerous drop-offs.

How Long is Gongkar La?

The road to the summit stretches 39.5 km (24.54 miles) and runs east-west from Lungar to Damteng. This high-altitude road is primarily utilized by the Indian Army along the Indo-Tibet border.
