Is the road to Gongma La unpaved?
Set high in the northern part of the country, the road to the summit is unpaved. It's a military road usually closed to foreigners. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. This strategic road was constructed as part of the Indian Army's drive to provide faster connectivity to the sensitive Demchok zone.
How long is Gongma La?
The pass is 30.3 km (18.82 miles) long, running south-north from Ukdungle, a small Indian Army military compound, to Khuldo.
