Gorun La, a difficult road to the summit
Gorun La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.690m (18,667ft) above the sea level, located in Qusum County in the Shannan Prefecture of Tibet, in China. It’s one of the world's highest motorable roads.
It’s one of the highest mountain roads of the country. The road to the pass, also known as Guren La, is extreme. Totally impassable in winters. The climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. Most people feel altitude sickness at around 2,500-2,800 meters. Near the pass, oxygen is in short supply. The climb requires a military authorization very difficult to obtain (even for a national) because it is located in a totally isolated area near the Indian border.
