Niti Pass

Here's How To Have The Ultimate Road Trip To Niti Pass

Niti La is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.086m (16,686ft) located on the border of India and China.

The road to the summit is mostly unpaved. 4x4 vehicle required. Due its location, connecting Uttarakhand, a state in the northern part of India and southern Tibet, an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China, the pass is closed to private vehicles and you need permission from SDM, Joshimath. This trail passes through remote areas, so you need to be prepared: mobile phones do not work there.

Tucked away in the Nanda Devi National Park, the road to the summit is very steep (hitting a 15% of maximum gradient) and features countless hairpin turns. Starting at Daba Township, the road is 50.3 km (31.25 miles) long. During the winter season, between November and mid-May, it remains covered with snow.
