Driving the scenic yet challenging Yunnan-Tibet Highway
Running along the Hengduan Mountains, in China, the Yunnan-Tibet Highway is a very scenic drive. The road is 702-kilometer-long.
The Yunnan–Tibet Highway is paved and links Dali and Markam, where it joins the G118 highway. The road conditions are good. However, heavy snow may block the road in winter at Hongla Snow Mountain and White Horse Snow Mountain. In the rainy season, the section from Zhongdian (Yunnan) to Markam (Tibet) has frequent mud-rock flows and landslides. Ask about the road condition before departure and arrange an easy schedule in case of road closures.
