How challenging is the road through Tiger Leaping Gorge?
The road is a stretch of pavement (until recently a simple mule track) crossed by several waterfalls, and frequently beset by rockslides. It includes steep inclines, many narrow parts, and crossing waterfalls, through farmlands and shaded woods. Landslides frequently cause travel delays. Some portions of the road have been known to disappear into the river below.

The most challenging part of the drive is 15.61 km (9.7 miles) long, north-south from Hetaoyuan to Lazangu. The area was officially opened to foreign tourists in 1993.
When is the best time to go to Tiger Leaping Gorge?
Famously known as one of the deepest gorges in the world, this place can get pretty busy, so avoid July and August when the water level is the highest. It’s still pretty crowded even though it’s not peak season. The best time to visit is in the months of October, November, and May. The rainy season runs from June to September, and it’s cold during the winter.
