Discovering Mount Davis: Military Relics on Hong Kong Island
Mount Davis is a mountain peak at an elevation of 269m (883ft) above sea level, located on Hong Kong Island, in China. It is an old military site with many war ruins, including five gun emplacements, ammunition stores, and accommodation buildings.

Why is Mount Davis famous?
It’s said to be the westernmost hill on the island. The summit offers views of Lamma Island, Lai King, Stonecutter Bridge, Queen Mary Hospital, the southern part of Hong Kong Island, and Mount High West. You'll also pass through several war relics, which will pique the interest of those who enjoy learning about history. Along the path to the hilltop, ruins of batteries, military camps, and even a command center are easily accessible to the public.
Why is it called Mount Davis?
The peak is named after Sir John Francis Davis, who was the 2nd governor of Hong Kong from 1844 to 1848.
How long is the road to Mount Davis?
The road to the summit is totally paved. It’s called Mount Davis Path. Starting from Victoria Road, the road is 2.0 km (1.24 miles) long. The last part of the route is blocked by a barrier to stop cars from entering. It’s extremely steep.
