How to drive the unpaved road to Puram La?

The pass is located in Nang County, within Nyingchi Prefecture, in the southern part of the country.

Is the road to Puram La unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It's called S510 road. It’s a narrow, high-altitude mountain road with a compact dirt and gravel surface. The track surface is stable enough for light vehicle and motorcycle traffic under good weather. There are no marked lanes or guardrails separating the road from the steep, unstable, and rocky slopes that define the landscape. It features a few hairpin turns near the summit.

How long is the road to Puram La?

The road is 16km long, running west-east from Puronglang to Lielong Village.

Is the road to Puram La open year-round?

Set high in the Nyenchen Tanglha range, the road is impassable in winters due to heavy snowfalls. This section has zero vegetation due to the high elevation and is exposed to the elements, meaning strong winds or rain would significantly affect traction.
