The pass is located north of Shigatse, in the southern part of the country.

Is Kyipogo La paved?

The road to the summit is totally paved in very good conditions. It was asphalted in the 2020’s. The road is mostly straight. The access road is restricted, seeing constant military truck traffic and, features checkpoints that blocks free passage for civilians or foreigners.

How long is Kyipogo La?

The road through the pass is 14km long, running north-south from Zexuxiang to Xieshang.

Is the road to Kyipogo La open in winter?

Set high in the Gangdise Shan range, the road is usually impassable due to heavy snowfalls.
