The pass is located set between the glacial valleys of the Bum Chu and Kharda Chu rivers, within the protected area of the Qomolangma National Nature Preserve, south of the main G318 Friendship Highway.

The rugged road to the summit is totally unpaved mountain track, with extreme steepness and several ramps reaching a maximum gradient of 25%. Due to the loose gravel surface and the incline, a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is required.
