The original route is 29.2 km (18.14 miles) long, starting and ending at the junctions with the new G214. While the modern road cuts straight through the mountain, the old road is a grueling sequence of countless turns and steep gradients. Driving this loop will add significant time to your journey, as the average speed is drastically lower due to the tight hairpins and narrow sections.
Is the old Baima Snow Mountain road dangerous?
Yes. Although the road is paved, it is considered extremely challenging and is now barely used by regular traffic. Since most vehicles take the tunnels, the old road receives far less maintenance. You should be prepared for:
