A tricky road to the international Wakhjir Pass
Wakhjir Pass is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.836m (15,866ft) above the sea level, located on the Afghanistan-China border. China has finished building a road across the pass.
The road to the summit is paved. It’s closed to foreigners and links Wakhan (Afghanistan) and the Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County (China). China has recently built a new road to the border area, along with additional guard posts. The road is intended for use by Chinese frontier patrols and for the transportation of supplies to border units. If you do choose this route please check up to date information due to the security situation. Obviously you would have to really (!) check what is going on now. You might want to contact your embassy in Kabul as they have really the best info about terrorist attacks, ongoing armed conflict, risk of kidnapping and high crime rate.
