The Ultimate Road Trip To Galaga Pass
Galaga Yakou is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.504m (14,776ft) above the sea level, located in Yushu Prefecture, Qinghai Province of China.
The road to the summit, also known as Zhung La, is totally paved in very good conditions. It’s called G214 highway. Set high on the Tibetan Plateau, remember this is a mountainous area, climbing up a high mountain. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor.
The pass is 165 km (102 miles) long, running north-south from Yushu City (Jyekundo) to Nangchen, not far to the west of Yushu Airport. Access to the pass is typically open all year round, but winter weather may cause restrictions and closures due to dangerous weather conditions. The road is very curvy. To drive the road without stopping will take most people between 4 and 5 hours.
