Erzhihala Daban is for drivers with strong nerves only

Erzhihala Daban is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.307m (14,130ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary between Qinghai and Gansu provinces of China.

Erzhihala Daban

Set high in the Qilian Mountains north-east of Hala Lake, the road to the summit is a thrilling (scary) off road experience. It’s totally unpaved. It’s called S204 Erga Highway. The road has some narrow parts, so proceed cautiously and hope no other vehicles come from the other direction. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse.  A 4x4 vehicle is required.

The pass is 61.6 km (38.27 miles) long, running from Qiqing Town (in Gansu province) to Yanglongxiang (in Qinghai province). If you're afraid of heights, it's probably best to keep your eyes forward. The road is steep, hitting a 14% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. The route is dangerous. Not recommended to newbies. Along the way you’ll have to deal with some dangerous 500m drop offs.
