A rollercoaster road to Shibapan Diecai Cave

Shibapan Diecai Cave is one of the most popular attractions in Xiuwu County, in the northwest of Henan province, China, bordering Shanxi province to the north.

Tucked away in the Taihang Mountains, the cave is a rich cultural site for its many stone carvings, natural resources and historical relics. It’s one of the most visited and touristic places on South Taihang. The road to the cave is totally paved. It’s called 233 Provincial Road (S233).

Located within the Jiao Zuo Yun Tai Shan Feng Jing Ming Sheng Qu Park the road is simply stunning.  The road is not easy, with countless turns and twists and this route is not recommended if your passengers are prone to car sickness. It’s a marvel of engineering, featuring 15 hairpin turns and 1 pigtail (turns which loop over their own road, allowing the road to climb rapidly). High risk of rock slides. It was built by the people of Xiuwu for ten years.
