Zhawa La: this road is not for timid drivers
Zhawa La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.021m (16,473ft) above the sea level, located in Batang County, in western Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, People's Republic of China.
The curvy road to the summit, also known as Tsawa La, is totally unpaved. 4x4 vehicle recommended. Remember this is a mountainous area, climbing up a high mountain, with a notorius absence of oxygen. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor. The road connects Batang and Litang towns. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. Facilities like electricity, medical aid, hot running water, western toilets etc. are rare to find. The steep drive, with hundreds of hairpin turns, offers magnificent views of the Genyen range.
