Ali CMB Polarization Telescope

Ali CMB, a road you'll never forget

Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT) is a ground-based CMB observatory at an elevation of 5.176m (16,981ft) above the sea level, located in Gar County in the Ngari Prefecture of the western Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

Nestled in the Tibetan Plateau, the road to the station is concrete. It was completed in 2020. The drive is very steep. The observatory is a new window for CMB polarization observations in the northern hemisphere. Remember this is a mountainous area, climbing up a high mountain, with a notorius absence of oxygen. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor.
