Kangbeicun-Zhangcun Road is an otherworldly drive
Located in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, near the border with Nepal, the road from Kangbeicun to Zhangcun is a challenging adventure.
The winding narrow road is totally unpaved. 4x4 vehicle recommended. It’s a difficult road: adverse weather conditions are common. The track is 60km (37.28mile) long and runs west-east from the village of Kangbeicun towards Zhangcun.
Along the way you’ll have to deal with uncountable hairpin turns (around 100). Remember this is is a mountainous area, climbing up a high mountain, with a notorius absence of oxygen. The road is pretty steep, with a maximum gradient of 10%. The road climbs up a couple of high mountain pass. It tops out at 5.432m (17,821ft) above the sea level.
