The route features more than 100 sharp hairpin turns as it climbs the mountain face. The surface is entirely unpaved, consisting of loose gravel and fine dust that offers very little grip. With a 10% gradient, the climb is a slow crawl where tires often spin out on the tightest corners. There are no guardrails, and the track is so narrow that larger trucks often have to perform three-point turns just to get around the hairpins. A high-clearance 4x4 is the only vehicle that can handle the deep ruts and the sharp stones of the Himalayan ridges.

At 5,432 meters, the lack of oxygen is extreme. Your engine will lose up to 40% of its power, making the 10% ramps feel like a wall. You must carry at least two full-size spare tires and several cans of extra fuel, as the low-gear climb will drain your tank much faster than usual. A shovel, sand ladders, and a tow strap are essential for clearing the path or getting out of a rut. The dust is abrasive and will clog your air filter quickly, so bring a spare. Mechanical self-sufficiency is the only rule here: if the car stops, your survival depends on what you have in the back of the 4x4.
