Wadi an Nakhur

Travelling through the Wadi an Nakhur

Wadi an Nakhur is the deepest canyon in the Middle East. It’s located in northeastern Oman north of Al Hamra town.

The canyon is accessed from the road ascending Jebel Shams and turning right near the village of modern Ghul. The surface on this gravel road is often loose, especially along the sides of the road. It is sometimes also referred to as Wadi Ghul. The rough track requires 4WD. After 7 km the road ends at the village of An Nakhur.

This trail passes through remote areas, so you need to be prepared. The loose gravel of the wadi floor makes the driving unsuitable for non 4x4s. This route is not suitable for normal cars. If you dare to take the risk and travel along this dusty and bumpy route, then make sure to be driven by someone who has experience of the road. The road, which is just a dirt track, is very bumpy and rough.
