Kotal-e Ghar Jawin is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.769m (12,365ft) above sea level, located in Badakhshan Province, in Afghanistan. It's one of the highest roads in the country.

Is the road to Kotal-e Ghar Jawin unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved and rocky. One mistake can have serious consequences. It comprises narrow parts and very steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle required. It is already unclear if this is Taliban controlled area or not, so off-limits. Obviously you would have to really check what is going on now. You might want to contact your embassy in Kabul as they have really the best info.

Set high in the Pamir mountains, the road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting).
