Kowtal-e Yāghardā, a challenging unpaved road
Yaghurda Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.525m (11,564ft) above the sea level, located in Badakhshan Province, in north-eastern Afghanistan. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. Stay away if you're scared of heights.
The road to the summit is unpaved. It’s a 4x4 track. Impassable for 2 vehicles at the same time. This road tests the skill, and courage, of any driver. It’s definitely not for anyone suffering from vertigo or a fear of landslides. The road is very steep. If you do choose this route please check up to date information due to the security situation. Obviously you would have to really (!) check what is going on now. You might want to contact your embassy in Kabul as they have really the best info about terrorist attacks, ongoing armed conflict, risk of kidnapping and high crime rate.
