Fill up the tank before you begin
It sounds obvious but it is important not to run out of fuel on the road especially on longer trips where filling up may require time and effort. If you are running on empty then this could mean that you need to find gas stations first which will waste more time than simply trying to keep enough fuel in your tank so that you can get all the way there.
Get some music playing
This may seem like an obvious one as well, but silence can be uncomfortable or even dangerous when attempting to concentrate for hours at a time. If you listen to music or radio shows then this will help to keep your mind distracted and it may even help you to stay awake which is an important factor if you are driving through the night.
Do some research on where you're going
