Traveling in Mexico

Tourists planning to travel to Mexico should note that from April 1, 2021, Mexico levies the new Cancun Tourist Tax. The tax is levied in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, which is home to Cancun and the Riviera Maya. The tax must be paid by all foreign tourists over 15 years old when departing from Mexico through international airports located in the state (Cancun, Cozumel). It should be noted that tourists will be able to pay before their arrival, upon arrival in the country or during their stay as the payment will be made when the tourist leaves the state. Tourists can pay for the Visitax Tourist Tax while staying in Mexico through the new Visitax website or in cash in pesos at the POS terminals set up at the airports. Some airlines have already included this tax in the cost of the ticket.

Is Mexico as dangerous as it is commonly believed? Millions of tourists from all over the world visit Mexico every year. At the same time, crime and violence are rampant in many regions of this country. Tourists should always be on their guard, especially when visiting areas bordering the United States. The main chaos is taking place in the border areas. The most criminal states are considered to be Michoacán, Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Coahuila, as well as the cities of Nogales, Ciudad Juárez, Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey and Matamoros. You have to be very careful when traveling along the most dangerous routes in Mexico: Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo, Coatzacoalcos - Villahermosa, México-Queretaro, Querétaro-San Luis Potosí and Puebla-Córdoba.

When planning your trip, you should pay special attention to safety. Despite the fact that in recent years the situation in the country has improved significantly, you should still follow the basic rules of caution, have an idea in advance about the places that you are going to see and make routes to them. This is due to the fact that there are drug wars in Mexico. Mafiosi are at war with each other, and the state is at war with mafiosi.

Mexico is a very large country. The resort part is located on the Yucatan Peninsula in the east of the country, and the main attractions are scattered throughout the territory. That is why travelers are forced to travel around most of the country if they want to see its historical heritage, for example, Chichen Itza (the grandiose center of the Mayan-Toltec civilization in the form of one of the largest ancient cities), Chapultepec Palace, Copper Canyon (national park, which is often compared with the Grand Canyon in the United States), Acapulco, etc.

Mexico is a vibrant and distinctive country that combines the secrets of the ancient Maya peoples and colonial treasures, white beaches and extraordinary entertainment. For every traveler, a vacation in Mexico will undoubtedly become a discovery and meet even the most daring expectations.
