Located in the Al Madow mountain range in northern Somalia, the Maydh-Erigavo is a high mountain track. The road is gravel. It’s 76.6 km long and links Maydh, an ancient port city and the town of Erigavo, also spelled as Erigabo. 4x4 recommended.
The road is narrow and pretty steep. It climbs up an elevation of 2.067m (6,781ft) above the sea level. There are several tunnels and hairpin turns along the route. In many places the road is bordered by a drop of hundreds of meters (many hundreds of feet) unprotected by guardrails.
